Daisy Linhares

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but childhood boredom can play a role too. When Daisy Linhares was growing up in Brazil her hard working parents supported the family but didn’t have expendable income for things like toys. To satisfy her creative nature, Daisy began to make things then and she just never stopped. Now she is a successful clothing designer and owner of the Venice boutique, All Things Fabulous.

The creative process is the part that most artists love but it takes more than that to run a successful textiles company. Daisy explains, “Manufacturing is grueling and it would take any weaker or less resilient person down.” Often, the difference between people who are creative and people who can sustain the business end of being an artist generally does come down to patience and perseverance. She says, “I am not a quitter and I am not discouraged easily. I am a transformer and I know there is always a lesson to learn that will make you more patient and more understanding. No one cares as much as you do about your project, so it is up to you.”

Inside some of the randomly discarded pieces of furniture that are strewn across the back parking lot at one of her manufacturing locations in downtown Los Angeles, lives a family of stray cats. And though her life is busy and manufacturing isn’t easy, Daisy who is an animal lover will always take the time to provide water and food for the kitties.

Many of the All Things Fabulous textile designs include animals because Daisy is passionate animal lover who believes that the love for her own animals is so pure. “They connect with you on such a deep level and it is almost as though they can take your pain out of you. They have no malice and all they ask for is food. An animal would never hunt a human down and put their head on the wall as a trophy.”
