Jenny Lancaster’s List of Ten Horse Adventures

Growing up with a hippie family that moved around frequently Jenny was fortunate to be exposed to a wide variety of horse disciplines. Her adventures, ambition and talent with horses was noticed at an early age by other horse professionals and has worked side by side with many of the top trainers in their fields. Below is list of places that her obsession with horses has brought her.

  1. She first rode a horse at the age of three and her parent’s bought her a $45 dollar pony when she was nine years old that she rode bareback with only a bridle through the dessert arroyos of Pojoaque, NM.
  2. At the age of 11, while living in Newfoundland, Canada Jenny was trained by an tough and somewhat intimidating German trainer who had her competing in jumping shows every weekend. (Jenny swore she would never be a trainer that intimidated her students.)
  3. After Canada came upstate New York where she worked with an Arabian trainer and headed back into the show ring.
  4. Next came Puerto Rico where she exercised the race horses in the morning on the track at at El Commandante. This led her to work for a well known Puerto Rican Paso Fino trainer and she learned the extraordinary gaits of the Paso Fino horses called the “Paso”.
  5. Then she went on to St. Martin where she traveled on a plane with six thoroughbred race horses to start an Equestrian Center on the beach.
  6. In France she worked at top breeding farms and trained with the French equestrian team captain, played polo on an all women’s team that was the first to compete against men in France.
  7. She returned to the United States and worked in NJ, NY and PA training jumpers. In New Jersey she worked with an old Irish Steeple Chaser instructor who, when she would show a horse to a potential buyer, would scream at her, “ That horse knows more then you will ever know. Now take him around the course and stay out of his way!”
  8. When she first moved out West she realized everything was different than her past 30 years of training with horses. So Jenny decided to further her education and learn the ways of “Natural Horsemanship” – she rented out her house, threw her stuff in storage, packed up her truck, trailer and two horses and traveled to Texas and Arizona where she worked with 3 world renowned horse trainers in colt starting, cutting and reining. They gave her all the knowledge and education she needed to start a legitimate horse training business.
  9. The first five years in Taos was tough but as she stuck it out she earned the respect of the Pueblo Indians, the cowboys and local sheriff’s posse. She even had a Native American War Chief bring his horse for her to train. And now Jenny either sells a horse or trains a horse nearly every year for the Taos Pueblo War Chiefs.
  10. Now Jenny is living her dream in Taos, NM helping horses and humans of all disciplines find harmony and have fun with one and another.
